With less than two weeks before Christmas, we wanted to share some of our favorite non-children’s books Christmas stories. We've got sweet romance, historical and inspirational. And of course several have dogs! They make for a perfect evening of reading and snuggling on the couch with a blankie and your favorite pooch! They also make great holiday stocking stuffers (or birthday gifts… or anytime gifts…)! So, read on and then grab your copies today!
HOLIDAYS IN HALLBROOK COLLECTION
This set of three stories is from one of our favorite sweet romance authors, Elsie Davis. Each of these stories have three common elements: they are all set in the small-town of Hallbrook, NH, they have kids, and they have dogs. The perfect combination for a collection of sweet, wholesome, and Happily-Ever-After romances suitable for all ages!
Elsie’s most recent release, Love & Peace, is a wonderful Christmas story about second chances for a new love, Christmas miracles, and the natural joy a child and sweet dog can bring to those around them.
Sam Wyatt goes to a cabin in Hallbrook each year at Christmas looking for solitude with the memories of his wife and daughter, who he lost in a car accident a few years ago. Except not long after he arrives, Megan Langley and her daughter take up residence and refuse to leave. A quick call to the rental agent and Sam finds out the cabin has been double booked and he's kicked out to the snowy cold. But when an avalanche closes Tinsel Pass, he’s forced to return to the cabin.
Megan was supposed to spend this Christmas celebrating and honoring her mother at her favorite place this year. When one night housing Sam turns into more, Megan and Becca are resolved to get their Christmas spirit back. They keep Sam busy, giving him zero chance of finding the solitude he craves, especially when a stray dog comes around and Becca’s determined to help the mutt.
When the pass reopens, Sam is torn emotionally between the past and present. Can a little Christmas magic save him from making the wrong decision?
The other two stories currently out are: Love & Order and Love & Family (inspired by a true event with a crazy golden retriever that insisted on chasing squirrels). Next up: Love & Chocolate (January 2020), Love & Hope (February 2020), and Love & Liberty (March 2020).
About the Author
Elsie Davis discovered the world of Happily-Ever-After romance at the age of twelve
when she began avidly reading Barbara Cartland, the Queen of Romance, and has been hooked ever since. After building her dream log home on top of a small mountain, she turned her attention to do what she loves most, writing. A #1 Amazon best-selling category author, she writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense. She writes from her heart, hoping to share a little love in a big world.
When she’s not writing, she can be found birding, kayaking, camping, fishing, playing disc golf, and taking nature walks—hoping to spot wildlife. Basically, she loves all things outdoors, EXCEPT cold weather. She and her husband are avid Caribbean cruisers, but Elsie’s favorite vacation was their cruise to Alaska. (In spite of the cold!) Indoors, she enjoys a toasty fire, a glass of red wine, and of course, a great romance with a guaranteed Happily-Ever-After.
Extra Tidbit: Rudy, her beloved and dearly missed golden retriever, was legally named Rudolph Valentino Davis for the actor dubbed the ‘Latin Lover’ of the big screen. Rudy was aptly named, loving everyone!

BY THE LIGHT OF A CHRISTMAS MOON
By the Light of a Christmas Moon is a holiday novella (111 pages) and part of the Nightingales Series by Victorian author Sheri Humphreys. An extraordinary romance you won’t want to miss. DISCLOSURE: This novella does not have a dog character. BUT…. Sheri has a dog (so we forgive her). And the next book on our list, also by Sheri, is ALL about rescues!
James Merrick, former cavalry officer, is determined to regain everything he lost in the Crimea: his health, his confidence, his future, and most important of all, the woman he never stopped loving. He knows there are better men, but thank God, he’s the one Rosemary Forestal wants.
Jamie’s already won her, but he wants to provide her with the best possible life. As Christmas draws near, he works tirelessly to ensure he’s worthy to be her husband.
But then her first love reappears, and he can offer more than Jamie ever could. Jamie’s a younger son who has taken up estate management, an ex-soldier who’ll never be quite the man he once was.
And the man from Rosemary’s past...is a prince.
Rescued is a heart-warming anthology of 8 great stories about love and rescuing each other while saving a dog in need. Proceeds go to Project Freedom Ride.
Sheri Humphreys’ Sparks is the fifth story of the anthology.
Tiny, but mighty, a little dog races into a burning house to save... a cat. Firefighter Brian Becker swoops up the brave dog and takes him to the emergency vet. Dr. Jennifer Magee is everything Brian wants, but with their schedules, her three special needs pets, and him with his new friend, Sparky, the odds of them getting together seems impossible. Until Brian realizes anything worth having is worth working for.
About the Author
Sheri Humphreys used to be an Emergency Room nurse, but today applies bandages, splints, and slings to the characters of her Victorian romance novels. She loves to ignore yard work and housework and read—usually with Lucy, a Jack Russell-mix, or Mama Catt, a superb mouser, by her side. She lives in a small town on the central California coast.
A Hero to Hold received a prized Kirkus Star and was named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books of 2016.

Our last recommendation is an award-winning inspirational novel, Remember Christmas, by author Dan Walsh. Dan is the author of a wonderful trio of books about… DOGS!... in the A Forever Home series. We love this series. His latest book (2nd edition, just released), Remember Christmas, tugged at our heart, too.
2nd Edition -- Finalist RT Book Reviews' Inspirational Novel of the Year
Rick Denton lives his life on his terms. He works hard, plays hard and answers to no one. So when his mother calls on Thanks-giving weekend begging him to come home after his stepfather has a stroke, Rick is reluctant. He's never liked Art, despite the fact his own father abandoned them when Rick was twelve. Rick's attitude sours even more when a couple of days helping at the family bookstore turns into weeks of cashing out old ladies and running off the homeless man who keeps hanging about,
Slowly but surely, the little bookstore and its quirky patrons—as well as the lovely young woman who works at his side each day—work their magic on him, revealing to Rick the truth about his family, his own life, and the true meaning of Christmas.
About the Author
A husband, an ordained pastor (retired), a writer, Dan’s novels have received popular and critical acclaim, getting rave reviews from USA Today and magazines like Publisher’s Weekly, Library Journal, BookList and RT Book Reviews. While under contract with traditional publishers, he wrote mostly suspense. Now as an indie author, Dan now has the freedom to write both inspirational and suspense novels. All three books in this A Forever Home series (Rescuing Finley, Finding Riley, Saving Parker) feature a shelter dog as a main character and also include a love story element.
In addition to his writing, Dan also enjoys public speaking and is frequently invited to speak at writer’s conferences, either as a keynote speaker or teaching workshops and seminars on a variety of writing topics. He has also begun to take on a limited number of clients for fiction coaching.
Recently, after his novel The Reunion was optioned and adapted into a screenplay by 2-time-Oscar-winning screenwriter and producer Nick Vallelonga, Dan has begun to work on adapting several of his bestselling novels into screenplays himself. The Reunion movie project is in pre-production (Nick plans to make it his next feature film).
